Moving the goalpostsSavills have today (07-07-2008) submitted yet another map to Norfolk County Council showing a revised outline to the Pentney MIN93 site. This time they have effectively sliced the site in half, removing the half nearest to the village.
This ammended map can be viewed here.

Although this amendment removes the green burial site and the public right of way from the proposal, as well as creating a small distance between people's homes and the edge of the pit, it still doesn't remove Pentney from the firing line.

Make no mistake about it. Pentney is still a village under threat.
The site is still close enough to cause structural damage to properties and historic buildings. The entire village will still be adversely affected by noise, smell, dirt, fumes and light pollution. And we'll still see a huge increase in the amount of heavy traffic on grossly inadequate roads.

By changing the MIN93 site boundary, Savills have effectively rendered a large percentage of the responses and objections we submitted completely irrelevant, as they were made in response to a different MIN93 site to the one now being considered.
In simple terms, they have moved the goalposts at a stage in the game where we don't have an opportunity to either comment or object.
It hardly sounds fair does it?

I have written to Norfolk County Council to point out this injustice to them, but given their past record of failing to respond to correspondence, I'm not optimistic that they'll reply.
In my letter, I have suggested that it's deeply unfair that Savills are allowed to submit fresh site boundaries without allowing the community a sporting chance to submit fresh responses to it.
I have therefore asked them to re-open the consultation period, at least in respect to the MIN93 site, so that we may make our feelings known. To do otherwise is to expose the entire consultation process as nothing more than a sham. A smokescreen designed to deceive the Norfolk community and give them the false impression that they were involved in a democratic process.

All we want is a level playing field.
